Submissions of the following scientific contributions are welcome:

Deadline

Abstracts must be submitted by 8 pm (CET), December 1st, 2009.

 

Guidelines Abstract Submission

A special criterion for accepting abstracts will be their structure, content and degree of innovation.

 

Content and Form

The abstracts will be reviewed anonymously by the WOC®2010 submitted program reviewing committee. In order to make their work as efficient and the selection as objective as possible, the following guidelines should be followed.

 

Procedure for the submission of abstracts

The submission of abstracts will be processed via a system that works web-based. The submission of abstracts can be made via the homepage www.woc2010.org. The transmission of abstracts in English has to be made via document-upload.

 

Please accomplish the following proceedings:

  1. Registration (login-data will be sent via email) 
  2. Please fill in all relevant data of your profile 
  3. Open the document of abstracts via the icon "abstract upload" 
  4. Download of templates to insert abstract text
  5. Set up an abstract via the following button: "New abstract" 
  6. Enter all authors and institutions via "New author" 
  7. Enter all details of your abstract via "Details for publish" 
    a. Choose your commercial incorporation (financial sphere of interest) 
    b. Selection and upload of precasted documents via "upload". After uploading the document click the button "refresh" if necessary. The document will be saved and you will get back to the overview. Please follow the instructions of the system "Publishing an abstract - To Do". 
    c. Choose topic category 
    d. Choose your requested presentation format 
  8. By clicking the button "publish" the submission of abstracts is completed.

 

Corrections within the text can only be done by uploading a new document.

 

Confirmation

By submitting the abstract via Internet (www.woc2010.org), the author confirms that all co-authors have agreed to the submission of the abstract and that the authors take full responsibility for the contents. The authors thereby guarantee that the submitted abstract describes own results and that clinical studies have been proceeded with approval of the ethics committee and animal tests have been proceeded with the official permission from the proper authorities.

 

Video Presentation

Please send your video including your abstracts by 16 December 2009 to:

Videos will only be accepted if submitted as DV tape, mini DV tape or DVD according to PAL. All videos shall include sound and shall not exceed 10 minutes.

 

Publication

Abstracts should be submitted in clear and concise English. The abstracts will be published.

 

Structure of the Abstract

The structure of the abstract should be as follows:

a. Background and Purpose

b. Methods

c. Results

d. Conclusions

Do not include any figures and tables.

The text should be structured as follows:

– Type the abstract using single-space and 11 font size arial letters.

– The text should not exceed 13 cm width and 17 cm length.

– Please note that a maximum of 2500 characters including blanks is permitted. The titles and the names of the authors are excluded from this number and have to be entered separately.

 

Each author is allowed to submit only 1 abstract of an oral presentation and 1 abstract of a poster as first author. Statements like "Results will be discussed" are not acceptable and may lead to a rejection of the abstract.

The disclosure of commercial relationships is expected. Bias in research, presentation and publication can arise from various forms of self-interest. The desire for professional recognition is inherent in academic activity, often with the indirect fringe benefits of increased stature and authority, academic appointment or promotion, more patient referrals, higher income, more travel, or other perquisites. These potential rewards for academic success can be a strong sources of bias. More tangible financial benefits can also accrue to the First Author or Co-author in some cases. Financial interests do not restrict presentation or publication, but the audience is entitled to know that such interests exist. Therefore, presenters at the WOC2010 meeting (including poster sessions) and other educational activities are required to provide disclosure of financial interests.

Publication of Scientific Papers of DOG members

Scientific contributions that have been accepted for oral presentation have to be handed in in publishable format for peer reviewing no later than 31 October 2010. Publication is possible in either German or English.

Copyright for oral presentations to be made at the congress by DOG members belong to the society. That is why authors of oral presentations are obliged to submit their contributions for review and publication by one of the following journals: "Der Ophthalmologe", "Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde" or "Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology". Upon request, the presentation may also be published in another journal. In this case the author is asked to send an informal application to the Secretary of the DOG. Contributions published in other journals shall annotate: "presented at the 108th DOG Congress".

All authors are kindly asked to observe the "Instructions for Authors" of the respective journals. Manuscripts not accepted for publication after the review process will be returned to the respective author with the reviewers' evaluation.
