Dear Sir and Madam,
Dear colleagues,

Next year it will be Germany's turn to host the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC® 2010), the largest international ophthalmology congress. From 3 - 9 June 2010, our most important sensory organ, the eye, will be the focus at the International Congress Center (ICC) in Berlin. For in addition to the 32nd International Congress of Ophthalmology (ICO), the 108th Congress of the German Society of Ophthalmology (DOG) and the German Academy of Ophthalmology (AAD) 2010 will take place under the umbrella of the WOC® 2010. We now cordially invite you to the WOC® 2010 in Berlin. Come and discuss the diverse and exciting topics covering all sub-areas of ophthalmology!

In a monthly newsletter we would like to inform you of what topics, speakers and events you can look forward to. A comprehensive bilingual website will also keep you up to date. On www.woc2010.org you will not only find information on the scientific program but also registration, abstract submission and hotel reservations. In the run up to the congress, podcasts on the individual topics at the WOC® 2010 will be published there too. Just take a look and listen in!

We are looking forward to the exciting and informative months devoted to ophthalmology and to an interesting joint congress in Berlin!

Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Gerhard K. Lang
President WOC® 2010

WOC® 2010 - Ophthalmology from A to Z

The figures speak for themselves: with more than 8,000 expected participants from around 120 countries, the WOC® 2010 will be the major ophthalmologic event of the coming year. Over 2,000 international experts will present a wide-ranging scientific program covering all areas of ophthalmology in over 600 congress sessions. There will be subspecialty days on core topics such as retina, glaucoma, cataract and refractive surgery. The overlapping of the WOC® 2010, the Annual Congress of the German Society of Ophthalmology (DOG) and the German Academy of Ophthalmology (AAD) offers ophthalmologists the unique opportunity of visiting three congresses at once. In addition to the international program, you can also take advantage of courses in German held by AAD and DOG. The program at a glance is available here. In an audio podcast, Professor Dr. Gerhard K. Lang reveals why every ophthalmologist should attend the world congress and what he as WOC® 2010 President is particularly looking forward to. You can listen in here.

Berlin, Berlin: marvel at world heritage on the Museum Island

A congress does not live from the program alone, but also from the city in which it takes place. 20 years on from reunification, Berlin is the ideal congress venue for such an important international congress as the WOC® 2010: a pulsating metropolis in the heart of Europe! There is a host of interesting impressions awaiting WOC® 2010 attendees away from the congress grounds. How about visiting the famous Museum Island, for example? The island comprises five museum buildings: the Pergamon Museum, the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Old National Gallery and the Bode Museum. Since 1999, this worldwide unique structural and cultural complex has been a Unesco World Heritage site. With the re-opening of the Neues Museum in October 2009, all five museums on the island are once again open to the public.
