Dear Sir or Madam, Dear Colleagues,
The major ophthalmologic event of the year, WOC® 2010, is fast approaching. Those who have not yet registered or booked courses and Subspecialty Days should do so as soon as possible at www.woc2010.org to take advantage of the early bird registration discounts available until 10 May, 2010.
Are you interested in being sporty and not only "intellectually active" during WOC® 2010? If so, this will not pose a problem: below you will find out how you can do something for your health while helping to preserve the sense of sight. This much we can say already: Make sure you pack your running shoes!
We are looking forward to an interesting congress and an exciting time together in Berlin!
Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Gerhard K. Lang
President WOC® 2010
AMD and diabetic retinopathy – common diseases of the future
Visual impairment and blindness caused by age-related ophthalmic diseases will increase on a large scale in the coming years. New methods of treatment for AMD and diabetic retinopathy are a key topic at WOC® 2010. Experts will present current findings of clinical studies and examine treatment methods which go beyond injection therapy. Included in the Retina Subspecialty Day on 6 June, 2010, these aspects will play a significant role. An overview of the program is available here. This and other Subspecialty Days on the topics of cataract, glaucoma, refractive surgery and paediatric ophthalmology can be booked online here. The deadline for early bird registration discounts is 10 May, 2010.
Eye Run: charity run in aid of Stiftung Auge (Eye Foundation)
Starting a day at the congress with some sport while helping to preserve the sense of sight is the agenda for the Eye Run. The five–kilometre charity run takes place on 6 June, 2010 in aid of Stiftung Auge (Eye Foundation). Founded in 2008 by the German Society of Ophthalmology (DOG), the foundation is dedicated to fighting avoidable blindness and serious visual impairment. The starting pistol will be fired at 7 am at Mommenstadion, situated only 10 minutes′ walk from the congress venue. Refreshments are provided and changing rooms and sanitary facilities are available. All congress attendees and running enthusiasts are most welcome to take part. Pay a 15 Euro donation fee and you´re off! Further information on the run and online registration is available here.
Berlin, Berlin: the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag – a must!
No visit to the capital city of Berlin is complete without it. Every visitor should see the Brandenburg Gate at least once! Until 1989 a symbol for the division of Germany, it now stands for national unity and is probably the city´s most famous landmark. The Reichstag, seat of the German parliament, is only a stone´s throw away. Breathe in history while visiting one of the most interesting examples of Berlin architecture. The building´s most impressive feature is the accessible glass dome, part of the redesign by the British architect Sir Norman Foster carried out on the Reichstag from 1994 to 1999. The look-out platform offers a spectacular view of the city: a Berlin highlight you just can´t miss!
