How to travel to Berlin

Berlin has two airports:

  • Tegel Airport (TXL) in the north-west of the city. Distance to City West:
    5 km / to City East: 8 km

  • Schönefeld Airport (SXF) in the south of Berlin. Distance to City West:
    22 km / to City East: 18 km

 

By Train

Berlin is easily reached from all directions by rapid InterCityExpress (ICE), InterCity (IC), EuroCity (EC) and InterRegio (IR) trains.

Central stations are Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof.

Other stations: Südkreuz, Gesundbrunnen, Spandau, Charlottenburg, Zoologischer Garten, Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz, Lichtenberg, Flughafen Schönefeld, Wannsee.

By Car

The motorway network radiates out of Berlin in the form of a star.

  • From Munich, Frankfurt/Main and Dortmund use the A 10 Berliner Ring then the A 115 (Avus) Stadtautobahn (city motorway).

  • From Hamburg or Rostock use the A 10 then the A 111.

  • From Dresden, Cottbus and Frankfurt/Oder use the A 10 then the A 113 and A 100

Signposting for Messegelände at the A 10 juction Nuthetal, Oranienburg, Schönefelder Kreuz and Pankow leads directly to the city motorways A111, A113, A 115 (Avus) and A 100 to motorway junction Funkturm, exit at Messegelände.

The Messegelände Berlin can be reached in a matter of minutes by car or taxi from Berlin-Tegel Airport along the Stadtautobahn (city motorway).

 

Please note that you will need a special sticker to drive into the city centre by car since Berlin has been declared as environmental zone on 1st January 2008. The ICC is located outside of the environmental zone. Further information also in English available under: www.berlin.de/umweltzone.

 

Parking

The ICC has a multi-storey car park at its disposal nearby with 650 spaces available to congress participants. A day ticket costs € 7.50 (per hour: € 2.00). A further 5000 parking spaces are available at the exhibition centre.

 

By Public Transportation

  • From Berlin-Schönefeld Airport: Bus SXF1 to S Südkreuz and change to the line S41 (circle line) and get off at Messe Nord/ICC

  • From Berlin-Tegel Airport: Bus TXL to Beuselstraße or Bus X 9 or 109 to Jungfernheide and than continuing with S 42 to Messe Nord/ICC or Westkreuz

  • From Alexanderplatz (mainline station/S-Bahn/U-Bahn) via Zoologischer Garten (mainline station/S-Bahn/U-Bahn): S 3, S 5, S 7 or S 75 to Westkreuz

  • From Zoologischer Garten or Charlottenburg or Ostbahnhof or Lichtenberg (all mainline stations/S-Bahn/U-Bahn): S5 , S 9 or S 75 towards Spandau to Messe Süd

  • From Spandau Station (mainline station/S-Bahn/U-Bahn): S 3 towards Köpenick to Messe Süd or S 75 towards Wartenberg to Messe Süd

  • From Potsdam (mainline station/S-Bahn/U-Bahn): S 7 towards Ahrensfelde to Westkreuz

  • From the east of the city to the west of the city: U 2 towards Ruhleben to Kaiserdamm

S = S-Bahn: metropolitan over ground railway

U = U-Bahn: metropolitan underground railway

 

Public Transportation Fares (BVG)

The BVG, Berlin's public transport system, operates Bus, U-Bahn (underground) and S-Bahn (city train). To go to the ICC from the city it is necessary to use the ticket for the AB zone (single fare ticket), there are several stops (Bus, U- and S-Bahn) nearby. The ICC is located next to the city motorway close to the Kaiserdamm in the West of Berlin.

 

Fare Zone AB

Short trip:  € 1.30

(up to three stations with U- and S-Bahn or up to six stations with bus and tram)

 

Single ticket:  € 2.10

(valid two hours in the same direction, zone AB)

 

4-Trip Ticket:  € 8.00

(valid two hours in the same direction, zone AB)

 

Day ticket:  € 6.10

(valid to 3:00 hrs at the following day, zone AB)

 

CityTourCard (48 hours):  € 15.50

CityTourCard (72 hours):  € 20.50

(The Berlin CityTourCard gives you not only the possibility of travelling free of charge for 48 or 72 hours with all public transport services in Berlin zone AB or alternatively zone ABC: it also gives you discounts on a well coordinated range of about 50 tourist highlights in the city.)

 

7-Day Pass:  € 26.20

(The 7-Day Pass is valid on seven consecutive calendar days. Validity begins on the first day of the validity period printed on the card or from the time of validation and ends on the seventh calendar day, at 24:00 p.m.)

 

Please note that Schönefeld Airport is out of the fare zone AB. A ticket for the fare zone ABC (€ 2.80) has to be bought in order to get to the congress venue or to the city center.
