The Berlin Wall may be long gone from the reunited city but its memory lives on. Many of the visitors who come from all over the world to the city are disappointed or puzzled to discover that there is so little left of “Berlin’s most famous construction”. And indeed the two halves of the city that were separated for decades have visibly come together. The preserved remains of the GDR borderline have lost their ability to terrify and are being conserved for posterity. We will take you to the few remaining commemorative sites:
We will walk along the remains of the Wall: beginning with a 112-metre stretch of original Berlin Wall that passes along the open-air documentation centre “Topography of Terror” to the Berlin House of Representatives and Martin Gropius Bau, on to Potsdamer Platz and Friedrichstrasse, then to a 1.2 km-long section of the Wall at the open-air East Side Gallery on Holzmarktstrasse, then to Bernauer Strasse, the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag buildings, to finish at the Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie. Here you can take a look at some originalexhibits from successful escape attempts made underground, across and even over round and get a feeling for the Wall’s history and events.

Exceptional tour of Berlin’s Neues Museum – Completion of restoration works in autumn 2009
The Neues Museum was one of the grandest building projects of its time in Prussia. Constructed between 1843 and 1855 by Frederick August Stüler, the Neues Museum is significant as a part of the larger ensemble of buildings that make up Berlin’s Museum Island and alone as a prominent example of 19th-century museum architecture.
The rebuilding of the Neues Museum has restored the ruins that were left standing after the Second World War along the lines of modern architecture. Structural work has managed to recover entire sequences of rooms and interior spaces that were previously lost without slavishly imitating the historical template. The restoration and rebuilding design concept of the facade and the interior rooms seeks to carefully preserve the building and to respect the monument’s historical heritage. After more than 60 years, the collections of the Egyptian Museum and of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History will return to the place history intended for them.

Potsdam is, without a doubt, one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. Nestled in Brandenburg’s charming cultural landscape, the capital of the region has much to recommend it as a day-trip destination. By far the most prominent sight in Potsdam is the Sanssouci Palace. But it is not only the erstwhile summer residence of Frederick the Great and the surrounding Sanssouci Park, along with its numerous other sights, that merit a visit. The city’s historical quarters – the Alexandrowka Russian colony, the Dutch Quarter and the Weaver Quarter, where the first Bohemian immigrants lived – convey the flair of a distinctly European city and are also worth a visit.
This half-day trip includes a tour of the Sanssouci Palace (with audio guide), a walk through the palace gardens and a bus tour through the city. The itinerary also includes a visit to Krongut Bornstedt, or Bornstedt Crown Estate, Potsdam’s “little Italian village”. This former Hohenzollern “Mustergut” (model farm estate) today offers much for you to enjoy. Amble around the courtyard with its 16 workshops and shops to get a taste of the arts and crafts traditions of Brandenburg and Prussia. What makes a tour so fascinating for the visitor is that in many of these workshops and shops you can see the craftsmanship with which these exquisite objects have been manufactured. The highlight of June is “Spargelzeit” (asparagus season). Sample this tender vegetable in one of the Krongut Bornstedt restaurants (not included in the price).

Enjoy an unforgettable experience in the beautiful countryside just outside Berlin.
This trip takes you out to Niederlausitz, in the eastern part of Germany. Here you will discover a riverscape that features among the most beautiful and most unique nature reserves in Europe. The terms “Spree” (the river Spree) and “Wald” (forest) together signify a natural inland delta having an incredibly compact network of hundreds of kilometers of meandering natural waterways. The Spreewald has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1991. Whereas elsewhere cars are used for shopping, for getting to work every day or for transportation, within the Spreewald area barges are traditionally used.
Appreciate the particular charm of this magical landscape on a traditional barge trip, during which you will be punted along the water in a typical wooden barge by one of the local bargemen. After the trip you will have the opportunity to sample traditional Spreewald cuisine in the quaint ferry harbor (not included in the price).
